
OUR GOVERNANCE
We're governed by a committee of representatives from our network member organisations and an Independent Chair. Elected by our members, our committee make sure that we're operating in the best interests of all of our members.
Our committee are elected by our members, for our members. Meeting monthly, our committee share their knowledge, skills, and a commitment to working collaboratively to ensure the network is effective and working to its aims. Our committee is made up of:

We have a Terms of Reference document that sets out our aims, membership structure and governance details.
As LATAN isn’t a separate legal entity, we have an accountable body that can enter into contracts on our behalf. Our accountable body is Citizens Advice Liverpool, who employ our staff, provide our equipment and space for us to work, manage our finances, and provide a range of support on practicalities like IT, marketing and communications.
We are currently funded by The Legal Education Foundation (2023 to 2025).
Our committee was elected by our members in 2024 during our most recent elections. They are working in all areas of the free legal advice sector, and they demonstrate the diversity and breadth of our membership.
CITIZENS ADVICE LIVERPOOL

Citizens Advice Liverpool are our accountable body. They provide free, confidential, and impartial advice to people who live in Liverpool. They provide people with the knowledge and confidence they need to to find their way forward - whoever they are, and whatever their problem.
FRONTLINE POLISH CHURCH

Frontline Polish Church has been working since its inception to bring about transformation through a range of community projects with an aim to relieve poverty, promote education, and strengthen families.
MERSEYSIDE LAW CENTRE

Merseyside Law Centre provide free legal advice and representation for residents across the Liverpool City Region. They specialise in housing, welfare benefits, and debt advice. Their work is helping to lift the weight of legal matters off residents' minds.
OUR LIVERPOOL

Our Liverpool is Liverpool City Council's refugee and migrant service. They support clients throughout the asylum process, be it through helping provide food and legal support, or through advising once people have been granted refugee status.
RAISE

Raise are an independent charity dedicated to empowering people through free, confidential, and expert advice and training. They are committed to being a guiding light for those in need, offering a safe and supportive environment for individuals to seek help and to develop the skills they need to take control of their circumstances.
UNIVERSITY OF LIVERPOOL SCHOOL OF LAW AND SOCIAL JUSTICE LAW CLINIC

Supported by law students, Liverpool Law Clinic offers free legal advice to members of the public who are unable to otherwise afford it. Their solicitors are experts in their field and have many years of experience in practice.
YOUR HOUSING MONEY ADVICE

Your Housing Group's Welfare Benefit and Debt Advice Team offers confidential, friendly support to help residents solve benefit problems and maximise their income. They also help residents to understand changes to the benefit system and provide support with benefit appeals through to tribunal hearings.
REFUGEE WOMEN CONNECT

Refugee Women Connect is a women-only charity set up to support women asylum-seekers, refugees and survivors of trafficking. They work together to build a safe life in the UK for all women in the asylum seeker and refugee community.
SAHIR
Sahir is the Liverpool City Region's LGBTQ+ and HIV charity. They provide help when it is needed most, through practical and emotional assistance. They offer camaraderie and connection in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Sahir is all about creating connections and building a brighter, healthier, inclusive future.
SHELTER MERSEYSIDE

Shelter exist to defend the right to a safe home. They are working to end the devastating impact the housing emergency has had on people and communities.
VAUXHALL COMMUNITY LAW AND INFORMATION CENTRE

Vauxhall Law Centre provide a range of advice on social welfare issues. Their aim is to overcome poverty through provision of their specialist support. They help people to enforce their rights to combat injustice and tackle discrimination.
LIVERPOOL JOHN MOORES UNIVERSITY LEGAL ADVICE CENTRE

Run by the University's School of Law, the Legal Advice Centre is open to members of the public, staff and students. Liverpool John Moores University believes that even the most junior lawyer has a duty to give back to society.
