Liverpool Access to Advice Network Awarded Fairer, Healthier Liverpool Organisation Accreditation

21 May 2026

Network recognised for its outstanding commitment to reducing health inequalities

Liverpool Access to Advice Network has today been awarded Fairer, Healthier Liverpool Organisation Accreditation by Liverpool City Council. This accreditation commends our Network's outstanding commitment to reducing health inequalities in Liverpool.

This accreditation follows on from Liverpool being granted Marmot City status by Professor Sir Michael Marmot in April 2025. This status was conferred in recognition of Liverpool's strong commitment to tackling health inequalities and the city's efforts to address the root causes of poor health.

Fairer, Healthier Liverpool Organisations actively work to embed Marmot principles within their work. These principles were determined by Professor Sir Michael Marmot as covering the necessary actions to ensure positive determinants of health. The eight principles are: give every child the best start in life; enable all children, young people, and adults to maximise their capabilities and have control over their lives; create fair employment and good work for all; ensure a healthy standard of living for all; create and develop healthy and sustainable places and communities; strengthen the role and impact of ill health prevention; tackle racism, discrimination and their outcomes; and pursue environmental sustainability and health equity together.

Liverpool City Council recognise Fairer, Healthier Liverpool Organisations as working to build the foundations for people to live healthy lives, promoting equity, and delivering practical interventions which strengthen health outcomes for local people. Edward Hodgson, Coordinator, says:

'I'm absolutely delighted that our members' work has been recognised with this high-profile accreditation. We know that access to advice and support plays a key role in a person's health and wellbeing. We all face issues at times that we need help with, and sometimes those issues can have a negative impact on our health and wellbeing. It is at times like these that people turn to our members for support, guidance, and help finding a path forward.

This accreditation is a testament to the work our members do to improve health outcomes for people living in our city.

I'm deeply proud to work for Liverpool Access to Advice Network. Every day I get to hear about the incredible success stories happening within our network, and to learn from people who are developing innovative ways of supporting even more people. I'd also like to extend a particular note of thanks to our elected Committee for their support in coordinating our network activities, to our board of trustees for their vision and guidance, and to our parent company Citizens Advice Liverpool for their continued support.'

Accepting the award alongside Edward Hodgson are trustees Heather Jessop and Professor Timothy Nichol. Heather is Chief Executive Officer of Citizens Advice Liverpool and Tim is Pro Vice Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University.

Liverpool Access to Advice Network is proud to receive this accreditation alongside a number of its network members.
