Introduction to Immigration Advice
Aimed at frontline advice and support workers, this introduction to immigration advice won’t get you ready to be an immigration adviser – but it will give some grounding to help you better deliver your own area of advice in the context of any immigration issues.
Delivered by LATAN member organisation Citizens Advice Liverpool (CAL), this session will help raise your awareness about:
The regulation of immigration advice and limits to advice you can give;
Importance of key information (service user’s date of arrival in UK, nationality, immigration status) and how to elicit this;
What is meant by “immigration status” and some common terms and acronyms
An overview of some of the immigration/asylum issues that people face, especially where they impact on other areas of advice;
Appropriate referral and signposting
